[October 17, 2008]  (AP)  A cold front was to extend down the East Coast on Friday, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to the Southeast. There was a chance of severe weather there.

New England was to see warmer weather and sunny skies.

Mostly sunny skies were also expected in the Plains. Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms were forecast for the Northern Plains, but the Southern Plains were to remain sunny and warm with no expected precipitation.

To the West, a cold front was to kick up widespread scattered showers over the Pacific Northwest. Wildfires were to remain a threat in California as warm and dry conditions persisted. The Southwest was to see pleasant weather.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from a low of 15 degrees at Kremmling, Colo., to a high of 93 degrees at San Luis Obispo, Calif.
