[October 29, 2008]  (AP)  The early season winter storm in the Northeast will continue Wednesday morning as accumulating snow continues to fall throughout upstate New York.

HardwareLighter snow also was expected to linger in the Ohio Valley as well as across interior New England. By Wednesday night, the storm was expected to pull northeast into the Canadian Maritimes, leaving frigid temperatures in its wake.

In the high elevations across New England and upstate New York, temperatures are not expected to rise above the freezing mark, with some locations struggling to even reach the mid-20s. At lower elevations, highs will be in the 30s and 40s across the Northeast.

While the East freezes, the Plains will see soaring temperatures. High pressure building over the Mississippi Valley will bring clear skies to the region as well. The high will also spread clear skies throughout the Rockies and into the West. Along the West Coast, fog and low clouds are anticipated.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Tuesday ranged from a low of 14 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 98 degrees at Riverside, Calif.
