[September 02, 2008]  The following recalls were issued by various federal and state agencies during the week ending Aug. 30: 

COFFEE MAKERS

DonutsSears, Roebuck and Co. is recalling Kenmore and Kenmore Elite Coffee Makers sold nationwide from August 2007 to April 2008. The wiring in the coffee maker can overheat, posing burn and fire hazards. 

This recall involves 12-cup Kenmore coffee makers sold in black, white, and red with the following model numbers: 100.80006 (black), 100.81006 (white), and 100.82006 (red). The recall also involves 12-cup Kenmore Elite coffee makers with thermal carafe (model number 100.90007) and 14-cup Kenmore Elite coffee makers (model number 100.90006). The model number can be found on the bottom of the unit. There is a Kenmore or Kenmore Elite logo on the front bottom of the maker. 

Consumers should take the coffee makers to their nearest Sears or Kmart store to obtain a free replacement coffee maker.

CAR CHARGERS 

IMS is recalling Car Chargers Used with Power System Plus 3 Million Candlepower Spotlights sold nationwide at Sears and K-Mart stores from October 2007 to June 2008. The car charger is incompatible with the spotlight's battery, which can cause it to overcharge inside of a vehicle and pose a fire or burn hazard. 

The recalled 12V DC car charger was sold with the Power Systems Plus/UST 3 Million Candlepower Spotlight with model number HSLR30S. The spotlight is black and blue and has a sticker on each side that reads "3 Million Candle Power." "HSLR30S" is printed on the instruction manual and on the packaging.

STROLLER ACTIVITY BARS 

International Playthings Inc. is recalling Taggies™ Strollin' Along Stroller Activity Bars sold nationwide from February 2007 to July 2008.  The shiny material on the elephant's ear on the activity bar can detach, posing a choking hazard. 

This recall involves the Taggies™ Strollin' Along stroller activity bars. The multicolored, fabric, and plastic activity bars feature a yellow giraffe, a purple hippo and a blue elephant attached to a 12" long elliptical base with straps that attach to a stroller. The Taggies™ and Earlyears® logos are located on woven and satin labels sewn into the seam on the lower left front of the activity bar.

AC/HEAT PUMPS 

Goodman Company L.P. is recalling Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner/Heat Pump (PTAC) Units sold nationwide from February 2007 to June 2008. The PTAC's power cords can overheat, posing a burn or fire hazard. 

The recall includes 5.0 kW Amana-brand and Energy Knight-brand PTAC units with model numbers PTC-xxxx-50xx and EKT-xxxx-50x and serial numbers 0702112056 through 0804237539. The model and serial numbers are located on the control board plate found under the PTAC unit's front cover.

INDOOR LIGHTING FIXTURES 

Lithonia Lighting is recalling Indoor Lighting Fixtures sold nationwide from January 2007 to May 2008. The glass reflector can separate from the fixture and fall, posing a risk of injury to consumers below the fixture. 

The recall involves the Hi-Bay Indoor High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Fixtures, model numbers PG16A and PG21A. The fixture is intended for high-mounting heights (at least 20 feet above floor level) and is used in retail, warehouse and heavy manufacturing locations. The fixture's housing is made of die-cast aluminum.

POLARISCOPES 

GIA Instruments is recalling Illuminator Polariscopes 415000 and 415 sold nationwide from January 1996 to June 2007. The polariscopes can have a ground wire missing, posing a risk of electrical shock. 

The recalled polariscopes are white in color with model number 415000 or 415 printed on the underside of the instrument. A polariscope is an instrument used by gemologists to assist in gem identification.

BUGGY STROLLERS 

Regal Lager is recalling Phil & Teds e3 Single Buggy, e3 Twin Buggy and sport v1 Single Buggy Strollers sold nationwide from August 2003 to August 2008. The stroller's hinge locking mechanism poses a laceration hazard to the user folding and unfolding the strollers. 

The recalled single strollers all have metal frames with three wheels, a cloth seat and canopy. The twin strollers have a metal frame with four wheels, side-by-side cloth seats and double sun canopies. The Phil & Teds logo is located on the crotch piece of the harness.

HOODED SWEATSHIRTS 

Outfitter Trading Company is recalling Children's Hooded Sweatshirts and Jackets sold in Colorado, Wyoming and Michigan from September 2005 to May 2008. The sweatshirts and jackets have drawstrings through the hood which pose a strangulation hazard. 

The recalled garments were sold in children's sizes small, medium and large in the following colors: white, ivory, red, black, navy, brown, green, charcoal, blue, and pink. "BAC" is printed on the sewn-in tag on some of the garments. "Breckenridge", "Keystone", "Jackson Hole", "Vail", "Steamboat", and "Mackinac Island" is printed on the front of the garments. 

Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts or return the garments to the place of purchase for a refund.

WATER DISPENSERS 

Greenway Home Products is recalling Countertop Water Dispensers sold nationwide from June 2006 to November 2007. The internal heating element could overheat and drop molten metal through ventilation openings in the water dispenser's base onto the countertop, posing a fire hazard. The internal heating element also poses a shock hazard to consumers who touch it through the vents. 

The recalled countertop water dispensers include the following Vitapur, Greenway and Polar models. They dispense hot or cold water and use three or five gallon water bottles. The model name is printed on the front of the dispenser's base. Model and serial numbers are printed on a white label on the back of the dispenser's base. File number 218326 is printed on a silver sticker on the back of the dispenser's base.

WOODEN INFANT TOYS 

Habermaass Corp. Inc. is recalling Wooden Puzzles, Infant Rattles, Pacifier Holders, and Stroller Toys sold nationwide from January 2002 to August 2008. The wooden rattles, pacifier holders, and stroller toys contain small pieces including glued on mirrors and/or prisms that can detach, posing a choking hazard to infants. The head of the ladybug puzzle pieces also poses a choking hazard.

CHILDREN'S COSMETICS BAGS 

Bonne Bell Co. is recalling Bonne Bell Children's Cosmetics Accessory Bags sold nationwide from September 2007 to August 2008. The metal clasps on the handle of the accessory bags contain excessive levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested and can cause adverse health effects. 

The recalled accessory bags are made of plastic and have a zipper and carrying handle. The bags come with an assortment of cosmetic products, which are not part of this recall. BABY HAMMOCKS 

FlagHouse Inc. is recalling Yayita Baby Hammocks sold by FlagHouse and BJ Wholesale Club nationwide from September 2007 to August 2008. The hammock can flip over, posing a serious fall hazard and strangulation hazard to infants who get entrapped in the seat's restraint straps while upside down. 

The recalled baby hammock is cream-colored canvas and hangs from a wooden pole. The hammock measures about 29 x 43 inches. It has three restraint straps with red buckles and is attached to a cushioned pad for the infant. A mounting fixture, also called a fixing set, is sold with the hammock. "La Siesta" is printed on a tag located below the restraint straps. Model number YABP-1 is printed on a white tag sewn into the hammock’s side seam.
