WL-B in county baseball tourney

[September 08, 2008]  The Wolverine junior high baseball team rolled into county tournament play Friday afternoon with a 9-6 win at home over Sangamon Valley.

Brock Byrge (2-2) was the winning pitcher, throwing five innings, spacing seven hits and allowing no earned runs. Joey Olden got the save by pitching a one-two-three seventh inning.

WL-B banged out 12 hits, led by Jordan Yarcho (one run scored, two RBIs) and Sam Tiffany (three runs scored, two RBIs), who each had three hits. Levi Curry was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice, an RBI and run scored. Olden, Dane Eimer, Kyle Fitzpatrick, and Brian Cade also had hits for the Wolverines.

WL-B opened county play on Saturday with a 10 a.m. game against Mount Pulaski at Chester-East Lincoln. The winner was scheduled to play C-EL in a second game slated to begin around 12:30 p.m.
