[September 15, 2008]  TBILISI, Georgia (AP) -- NATO's chief has arrived in Georgia to show support for the pro-Western nation after its war with Russia.

NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer arrived Monday for a two-day visit. He leads a delegation of ambassadors from all 26 members of the alliance.

Scheffer has said that NATO wants to show support for Georgia after what he called Russia's use of disproportionate force against its smaller neighbor.

Georgia's pro-Western president has angered Russia with his avid pursuit of NATO membership. Last week he said Russia went to war to keep Georgia out of the alliance and warned NATO not to let Moscow gets its way through force.

The visit is to include the first meeting of a new NATO-Georgia Commission set up to oversee Georgia's membership bid.
