Current Lincoln College President John Hutchinson, who will lead the
unveiling program, said he is happy to welcome back a friend of
Lincoln College. "It is a pleasure to welcome J. Richard Stoltz
back to campus for this very special event. As president of Lincoln
College, he made extraordinary contributions to the rich legacy of
this institution. We are grateful for his service and hope to honor
him with this portrait," said Hutchinson.
J. Richard Stoltz joined Lincoln College in 1972. During Stoltz's
tenure, his goal for the college was to strengthen community ties as
well as increase cultural awareness. Stoltz joined forces with the
newly formed Lincoln Community Theatre group during that time, and
the Johnston Center became the home for their summer performances.
Stoltz left Lincoln College in 1977 to take an administrative
position with the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts in New York
City. He was formerly a director of university relations for
Virginia Tech in Northern Virginia. He also held roles at the Aspen
Institute for Humanistic Studies in Washington and at the New York
City Opera.
A graduate of Michigan State University, he holds a master's
degree from Boston University and a doctorate from Columbia
University.
Local Lincoln artist and LC alumna ('75) Deb Shull-Andrews
painted the portrait.
