[September 25, 2008]  (AP)  Foul weather was forecast for the East on Thursday as a storm lingers off the coast of North Carolina, while the Plains, South and West were to be warm and clear.

DonutsThe storm along the southern mid-Atlantic Coast was to hit the Carolinas with heavy rainfall and gusty winds through the weekend. Heavy beach erosion was possible, especially on the highly exposed Outer Banks. Large surf and rip currents were anticipated.

Elsewhere, placid weather was to continue through most of the country. Showers were to sneak into the Northwest, but stay west of the Cascades.

Southern Texas also had a chance of seeing precipitation.

Temperatures around the country were to be cool to moderate, except in the Southwest, where warmer highs were expected.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from 24 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to 107 degrees at Yuma, Ariz.
