[September 29, 2008]  The following recalls were issued by various federal and state agencies during the week ending Sept. 27: 

WOOD ABACUS 

LTD Commodities LLC and ABC Distributing are recalling Wood Abacus sold nationwide from December 2006 to February 2008. The wooden rods on the abacus can detach, posing a choking hazard. 

The recalled wood abacus is a multi-sided activity center that has a chalkboard, movable block letters with pictures, sliding shapes, a fun maze with gears, and a blue and yellow clock on the side of the activity center with two pink moving hands. Product code E7A is printed on the packaging near the UPC bar code.

DEEP FRYERS 

Euro-Pro and QVC are recalling Cooks Essentials Deep Fryers sold nationwide by QVC from April 2008 to May 2008. The fryers can overheat, posing a burn hazard. 

The recalled fryers include QVC Cook Essentials 3 Liter Stainless Steel Deep Fryers with three baskets. The fryers were sold as item number K14942. Model number F1053Q is printed on a sticker on the bottom of the fryers.

HARRY POTTER BOOKENDS 

Giftco Inc. is recalling Harry Potter Bookends sold nationwide from June 2004 to January 2006. The paint on the bookends contains excessive levels of lead. 

This recall involves poly-stone bookends painted and shaped in the characters of the Harry Potter book series. Bookend characters include Harry Potter, Hedwig and Hermione, and Crookshank. 

Consumers should return the bookends to Giftco for a refund.

FLUORESCENT LIGHTS 

Gotham Lighting is recalling Gotham Compact Fluorescent Downlights (Recessed Ceiling Lights) sold nationwide from November 2007 to July 2008. The relay on the backup battery of the lights could be programmed incorrectly and prevent the lights from functioning in an emergency. 

Only Gotham Compact Fluorescent Downlights sold with the optional backup battery pack are included in the recall. The lights are recessed ceiling lights that were manufactured between November 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008.

CHAIRS SOLD AT JO-ANN STORES 

Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores is recalling SmartSpace™ Papasan Chairs sold nationwide at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores from June 2008 to September 2008. The chairs were sold without a warning label instructing consumers to lock the chair's legs before sitting. This poses a fall hazard. 

This recall involves the SmartSpace™ Papasan chair. The silver metal frame chair has a circular fabric seat that sits on a 10-inch-tall base. The fabric seat used with the papasan chairs were sold in purple, pacific, lime yellow and gray. A hangtag on the chair reads "Smartspace Papasan Chair – 1 piece."

TV STANDS 

Studio RTA is recalling TV stands sold nationwide from May 2004 to August 2008. The stability of the stands does not meet industry standards to prevent TV tip-over, posing a risk of injury or death. 

This recall involves four different TV stand models. Model numbers are printed on the packaging and instruction's sheet. 

"E Series" Model 060331: The product consists of two glass shelves, a lower shelf made of metal, and black leg and frame components. 

"Fierro" Model 402875: This product was sold exclusively by Best Buy. The product consists of three glass shelves with black leg and frame components. 

"Madison DLP" Model 060176: The product consists of three glass shelves with dark wood grain finish frame components, black legs, and a black fiberboard back panel. 

"Madison 3000" Model 060090: The product consists of three glass shelves with dark wood grain finish frame components, black legs, and a metal mesh back panel.

Igloo Products Corp. is recalling Marine Elite Coolers sold at West Marine stores nationwide from January 2008 to July 2008. Sharp edges on the stainless steel latch attached to the cooler can pose a laceration hazard. 

This recall involves Marine Elite coolers sold in white with stainless steel latches. The coolers were sold in four sizes: 72 quart, 94 quart, 128 quart and 162 quart.

Razor USA LLC is recalling Razor® PowerWing™ Three-Wheeled Scooters sold nationwide from October 2007 to September 2008. The undersides of the foot platforms can have sharp edges, posing a laceration hazard.

RAZOR RIDE-ON VEHICLES 

Razor USA LLC is recalling Razor® Dirt Quad Electric Powered Ride-On Vehicles sold nationwide from August 2006 to September 2007. The control module for the throttle can fail and cause the electric ride-on vehicle to unexpectedly surge forward, posing a risk of injury to the user or a bystander. 

This recall involves Razor® Dirt Quad electrically powered ride-on vehicles. Product ID numbers included in the recall begin with 103110-01 or 103110-02. The product ID numbers are located on the bar code affixed to the right step of the vehicle, on the charger and on the retail packaging.

TOY POLICE CARS 

TCB Imports is recalling Toy Police Cars sold nationwide from May 2008 to August 2008. The red paint on the toy cars contains excess levels of lead. 

This recall involves toy police cars with a friction function. The cars were sold in red/white and purple/white color combinations. The cars measure 8 inches by 4 inches by 4 ˝ inches. Item number TF820 is printed on the product's packaging. 

Consumers should return the car to the store where purchased for a refund.

Water

LAWN MOWER JACKS 

Country Clipper is recalling Jack Lift Tools and Kits sold nationwide from May 2007 to June 2008. The jack lifts can have threads stripping or the nuts breaking, resulting in the shaft slipping and the mower falling from its stand-up position. This could cause serious personal injury to the consumer or property damage. 

The recalled jacks are used for lifting the lawn mower during service or maintenance. Two versions of this jack model have been manufactured. Version number one was made with a nylon nut and version number two was made with a sintered bronze nut. These recalled jacks were sold separately and on Charger, JAZee and Boss riding lawn mowers. 

Consumers should contact their local service dealer to have their lawn mowers repaired at no charge.

SKI-DOO SNOWMOBILES 

Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. is recalling Ski-Doo® Snowmobiles sold nationwide from June 2007 to September 2008. Cracks can develop in the welded joints of the drive axle assembly of the snowmobile and can result in complete breakage. If this happens the track of the vehicle can unexpectedly lock, causing riders to be ejected off the vehicle or lose control and collide with bystanders, a fixed object or other vehicles. This poses a risk of serious injury or death. 

This recall involves Ski-Doo® Model Year 2008 and 2009 snowmobiles. Models included in the recall are listed below. Model numbers are printed on the side panels of the snowmobiles.
