[September 29, 2008]  BOSTON (AP) -- Josh Beckett probably will miss the opener of Boston's first-round AL playoffs series against the Los Angeles Angels, a person in the Red Sox organization with knowledge of the plans has told The Associated Press.

Beckett, a postseason star who was expected to start Wednesday night's game, likely will be pushed back, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced its rotation.

The possibility that Beckett might be sidelined was first reported by the Boston Herald. It reported he had an oblique injury, citing an unidentified source.
