Training for baby sitters

A baby-sitting clinic taught by American Red Cross trainers will take place on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pegram Room of the Carnegie Building. This training session is open to 11- to 15-year-old boys and girls who want the skills and confidence to be great baby sitters. The cost of this full-day class is $40, and a limited number of partial scholarships are available by contacting the library. Come to the Annex Youth Services Department to register by the April 6 deadline; fee must be paid at time of registration. Call 732-5732 with any questions.

The butterflies are coming!

Children love to see our butterflies in all their stages of life. Our larvae will arrive in early April. They will be on display so children can watch them spin themselves into a chrysalis, then hatch into colorful winged butterflies before we "set them free" to find their natural home. Come in often to check the progress.

NoveList

Now on our website are links to NoveList and NoveList K-8. These are online databases of fiction titles, with NoveList for adults and the other specifically for elementary and middle-school children. Logging in with your Lincoln Public Library District card number will let you search for books by author, title, series or description of a plot. Click on author read-alikes to help you find authors who write in a similar genre that you enjoy. Also investigate "Award Winners, Book Discussion Guides or Feature Articles" for a wealth of information. You can even establish a file to keep lists of titles for future reading, as you are sure to find more titles than you can read at one time.

Miss Lou's blog

Louella Moreland, youth services librarian, has a blog that can be found through www.lincolnpubliclibrary.org or at lincolnpubliclibraryupdates.blogspot.com. She will discuss new books, introduce our programs, take polls and ask for your ideas. Check it out regularly for updates.

Children's book displays

Come in and see our display of books about Easter, as well as books to welcome spring. Whether you are reading for a school report or just for fun, we always have interesting groupings of books to peruse. We also have pop-up books and books with fold-outs to enjoy while you're here in the library. Look for them in the Youth Services Department.
