Cathy McIntosh, a family partnership specialist with Community
Action Head Start, is a certified child passenger safety technician
through Safe Kids Worldwide, and she will be available to inspect
and secure a variety of child safety seats. Community Action Head
Start will also host preschool registration from 10 a.m. until 2
p.m. on April 18 at the Head Start classroom -- the same location as
the car seat safety checks.
Head Start is a preschool program that provides comprehensive
services, nutritious meals and snacks, screenings, and dual
enrollment with the school district for children between ages 3 and
5. Head Start is offered to eligible families at no cost.
Families interested in enrolling their child in the Head Start
program are encouraged to register at the Head Start registration
day -- space is limited. For consideration, families should bring
proof of 2008 income, a copy of the child's birth certificate or
medical card, and proof of any child support, Social Security, TANF
and cash assistance the family receives.
"Head Start offers a variety of quality services for children,"
said Alison Sherren, family and community services manager. "We are
pleased to not only be able to provide preschool to eligible
families, but additional services, including the car seat safety
checks."
