[April 13, 2009]  (AP)  A strong storm system traveling over the southern Plains was expected to bring severe weather to the Midwest and Southeast Monday.

Hail and strong winds were the primary threats to the Ohio and Tennessee river valleys, while strong to severe thunderstorms threatened the Southeast.

As the storm system moved to the Northeast, cooler temperatures were predicted for the southern Mississippi Valley.

The Pacific Northwest was to get mixed precipitation with cooler temperatures, and rain and high-elevation snow were to spread eastward into the Intermountains and southward into northern California. The heaviest snow totals were expected over the Cascades. Some thunderstorms could develop.

Mild temperatures and showery weather were expected to continue across the northern Plains, bringing the potential for flooding along rivers.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 6 degrees at Anoka County, Minn., to a high of 98 degrees at Harlingen, Texas.
