Elizabeth Dobey

[April 14, 2009]  MIDDLETOWN -- Elizabeth Dobey, 89, of Middletown, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 6:15 a.m. at her home.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeremy Cagle and the Rev. Robert Irwin officiating.

Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart.

Mrs. Dobey retired from Lincoln Developmental Center in 1990. She had also worked at Armour’s, Stetson China Co. and Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital

She was born Nov. 5, 1919, in Logan County to Jesse and Bessie Logan Sparks. She married Donald A. Dobey on Jan. 21, 1939, in Bowling Green, Mo. He preceded her in death in October 1967.

She is survived by five children, Thomas (and Yvonne) Dobey of St. Peters, Mo., Edward (and Pat) Dobey of Springfield, Judith (and Bill) Jennings of Middletown, James (and Donna) Dobey of Pekin and Richard (and Cindy) Dobey of Middletown; 21 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Thomas; three infant children; an infant great-great-grandchild; seven brothers, Bill, Ananias "Turk," Andrew "Dutch," Paul, Allen, Thomas "Pete" and Robert Sparks; and four sisters, Alberta Danley, Jessie Boward, Pauline "Sue" Ellegood and Leona Debonis. She was the last member of her Sparks family.

Funeral Director

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Middletown and a lifelong resident of Logan County.

Memorials may be made to Middletown Fire and Rescue Squad, American Diabetes Association, or the donor’s choice.
