[April 14, 2009]  Once again this year Lincoln has been awarded the title of Tree City USA. It is the eighth consecutive year for the city to receive the designation, spearheaded by the work of the street department.

The city also received the Tree City Growth Award for the third consecutive year. Lincoln was one of the 523 communities throughout the country to be given this recognition. This award is to recognize environmental improvement and encourage higher levels of tree care throughout America. The award is designed not only to recognize achievement, but also to communicate new ideas and help the leaders of all Tree City USA communities plan for improving their tree care.

On Wednesday at 2 p.m. a city crew will plant two October glory maple trees on the north side of the Logan County Courthouse for Arbor Day Everyone is invited to this ceremony. In all there will be eight trees planted.
