[April 20, 2009]  (AP)  A strong system was expected to produce showers and thunderstorms over the Eastern U.S. on Monday.

The storms were expected to bring numerous bands of light to moderate showers and isolated thunderstorms from the Ohio Valley to the upper Great Lakes. Minor flooding was possible on main rivers.

More rain and storms were to push through across the Southeast toward the East Coast, with a slight risk for severe weather along the southeastern coast and Mid-Atlantic.

In the West, record high temperatures were possible. Unseasonably warm conditions in northern and central California had the potential to cause serious health problems for people sensitive to heat.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 14 degrees at Leadville, Colo., to a high of 99 degrees at Thermal, Calif.
