Bond prices fell. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note, which moves opposite its price, rose to 2.96 percent from 2.94 percent late Wednesday. The yield on the three-month T-bill, considered one of the safest investments, rose to 0.14 percent from 0.13 percent Wednesday. Light, sweet crude rose 73 cents to $49.58 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Overseas, Japan's Nikkei stock average rose 0.22 percent. In afternoon trading, Britain's FTSE 100 rose 0.4 percent, Germany's DAX index slipped 0.13 percent, and France's CAC-40 rose 0.2 percent.
