[April 25, 2009]  SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- Salem Cinema rolled out a rented red carpet to celebrate its new location. At some point during the night a thief rolled it back up - and made off with it.

Cinema owner Loretta Miles put out the carpet for the opening of a 10-day festival on April 17. It was there when the last employee left at 9:45 p.m. But by 12:15 a.m. it was gone. Miles said a security video shows a man yanking it up.

Miles said she would be happy just to get it back. She told the Salem Statesman Journal she rented it for $65.

Mike Pearlenfein, co-owner of A to Z Party Rentals, said it may cost $300 to replace.
