[April 27, 2009]  (AP)  The central United States was in for active weather Monday, while the East was to be warm and the West was to be cold.

Light to moderate rain showers, periods of heavy localized rainfall, hail, thunderstorms, strong winds and possible tornadoes were expected in the nation's midsection. There was a slight risk for severe thunderstorms in the southern Plains, Ozarks and the lower Ohio Valley.

In the West, the Great Basin and the northern and central Rockies were to see diminishing snow showers throughout the morning and lingering cold temperatures for the remainder of the day. Meanwhile, mixed precipitation was expected to arrive by evening in the Pacific Northwest to the northern Plains.

In the East, another day of hot temperatures was expected.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 12 degrees at Wolf Creek Pass, Colo., to a high of 96 degrees at Frederick, Md.
