Ag futures leap; livestock prices mostly lower

[August 04, 2009]    CHICAGO (AP) -- Agriculture futures rose steeply Monday on the Chicago Board of Trade.

Wheat for September delivery jumped 21 cents to $5.4925 a bushel, and September corn gained 18.5 cents to $3.58 a bushel. December oats leapt 13.25 cents to $2.2525, and soybeans for November delivery soared 48.5 cents to $10.305 a bushel.

Meanwhile, beef and pork futures mostly fell on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

October live cattle climbed 0.12 cent to 90.32 cents a pound, but September feeder cattle dropped 0.58 cent to $1.0197 a pound. October lean hogs slid 1.85 cents to 52.05 cents a pound, and August pork bellies traded down 0.50 cent to 61.75 cents a pound.
