The
Lincoln to Peoria Run took place Aug. 1. This was the 20th
anniversary of the Lincoln Run and it was a huge success. This year
the event donated a check in the amount of $37,000 at the telethon!
Last year's donation was $20,000!

This wasn't for the faint of heart.
The start time was 5:30 a.m. from the Logan County Safety Complex.
The run ended approximately at 5:30 p.m. at the Peoria Civic Center,
and the runners presented their check to the hospital around 8:40
that evening.
A team of 60-plus participants traveled 58 miles, going through
towns such as Hartsburg, Emden, Delavan, Tremont and Groveland, and
ending in Peoria. The entire trip was made along country roads. Some
runners ran 44 miles the day of the run.
Donations are accepted at any time. Contact Jennifer Bergman at
737-4813 or Kathy Craine at 871-7253 for more information. And
remember, 100 percent of all donations go to the St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital.
Brent
Sherman of Atlanta graduated with degrees in business
administration and economics from Monmouth College. He is the son of
Mark Sherman and Sarah Bumgardner, both of Atlanta. Marc Arulfo
of Lincoln also graduated from Monmouth, with a degree in art. He is
the son of Oscar and Fay Arulfo of Lincoln.
The
YMCA is still looking for some flag football players in
fourth to sixth grade. They have 10 so far, but they need at least
four more kids to have two teams of seven on seven. Don't pass up
this chance to have some late summer fun while learning football.
And it's flag football so you don't have to worry about bumps and
bruises. Call the Y today at 735-3915 to sign up for weekends of fun
playing flag football.
On
Aug. 5, Lincoln American Legion Post 263 held its banquet for
this year's junior and senior baseball teams. At the dinner, the
past season was discussed and the following players were honored:
Andrew Sparks received the C. Wayne Schrader honor, awarded
to a retiring Senior Legion player who displays good sportsmanship
and positively represents Lincoln American Legion Post 263. This
award was presented by Mr. C. Wayne Schrader. Andrew will be a
sophomore at McKendree College this fall.
Mitch Adolphson received the John West Most Valuable Player
award for a retiring Senior Legion player. Mitch was this year's
defensive star at shortstop and also a major contributor to the
pitching staff. Mitch will be a sophomore at the University of
Mississippi this fall.
