The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity made funds for
seven scholarships available to income-eligible individuals of high
academic merit or potential. The winners of these scholarships are
Kathryn McIntosh of Logan County, Catalina West and Jennifer Oney of
Mason County, Amanda Watkins and Amber Watkins of Menard County,
Kourtney Haas of DeWitt County and Amber Warmbier of Piatt County.
Three additional scholarship awards were made possible by CSBG
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding. The beneficiaries of
these additional funds are Ashley Bundy, Jonah Cooley and Cody Haas
of DeWitt County.
The recipients each received a $1,000 scholarship at a Community
Action Partnership of Central Illinois governing board meeting on
July 30. Checks were presented by Steve Lobb, board president, and
Angela Stoltzenburg, executive director.
The scholarship applicants attend an Illinois college and reside
in one of Community Action’s six counties: Fulton, DeWitt, Logan,
Mason, Menard or Piatt. The funds will be used toward expenses
incurred while continuing their education.

Kathy Shepherd, CSBG director, said, "It was a real challenge for
the board members to choose the recipients this year because the
applicants were so academically qualified and deserving of this
educational grant."
