German ship freed by pirates arrives in Kenya

[August 08, 2009]  MOMBASA, Kenya (AP) -- A German freighter released by Somali pirates after nearly four months has arrived in the Kenya port of Mombasa.

RestaurantThe 20,000-ton Hansa Stavanger was released earlier this month after being taken 400 miles (640 kilometers) off the southern Somali port of Kismayu on April 4.

It arrived in Mombasa on Saturday morning with a multinational crew that includes five Germans, three Russians, two Ukrainians, two Filipinos and 12 Tuvalus.

Pirates in the area have conducted more than 100 attacks this year and are currently holding about a dozen vessels.
