Being the first to arrive isn't always a good thing. This young man checks out the competition as the other steers are brought into the arena.

"You have to look happy for the judges. If I stick my tongue out at you, will you smile??"

 

When the steer wants to turn ahead of time, this young lady throws her weight around to keep him in line. It doesn't matter that he weighs at least 10 times what she does; he gets the message.

The judging process for Open Beef is the same as that for 4-H: Line them up at attention…

 

...then parade them around the arena…

...so that everyone can check them out…



 
 

 

...then bring them to attention in profile.
