Elizabeth 'Betty' Smith

[December 14, 2009]  Elizabeth L. "Betty" Smith, 84, of Lincoln, formerly of Charleston, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at 7:39 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Roselawn/Mound Cemetery in Charleston with the Rev. Walter Carlson officiating.

Mrs. Smith was the club and restaurant manager at the Charleston Country Club for many years and was well known for her cooking skills.

She was born June 24, 1925, at Osceola, Iowa, to Herman and Ethel Gills Gracey. She married Thomas Wesley "Wes" Smith on Aug. 24, 1946, in Osceola. He preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 2000.

She is survived by three sons, Craig (and Karrie) Smith of Williamsville, Kevin (and Judy) Smith of Lincoln and Todd (and Staci) Smith of York, Pa.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Charleston.

Betty was an avid golfer. She captured two separate club championships and also recorded two holes in one within the same week.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all.

Memorials may be made to Lincoln Elks Crippled Children.
