[December 21, 2009]  According to Recalls.org, a nonprofit organization, the following recalls were issued by various federal and state agencies during the week ending Dec. 19: 

VARIOUS ROMAN SHADES AND BLINDS:

FAUX WOOD BLINDS

American Vintage Group LLC is recalling Faux Wood Blinds sold in Texas from April 2009 to September 2009. Strangulation can occur when a child places his/her neck between the cords of the pull cord above the breakaway device and the device fails to breakaway.

This recall involves various sized custom Faux Wood Blinds with 2" slats in two colors – silk white and pearl. The recall only involves custom-sized Faux Wood Blinds. There is a label inside the head rail that states "NIENMADE China" and a second label inside the head rail with a manufacturing code beginning with the letters "MFG" followed by four numbers. A warning label on the bottom rail states, "Cords and bead chains can loop around a child's neck and STRANGLE."

RESTORATION HARDWARE SHADES

Restoration Hardware Baby & Child is recalling Roman Shades with Black-out Lining sold at Restoration Hardware Baby & Child stores nationwide from June 2008 to August 2009. Strangulation can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck.

This recall involves all Roman shades with black-out lining sold by Restoration Hardware Baby & Child. These shades measure 23, 32, 36 and 48-inches wide by 64-inches long. There is a label sewn on the left lower corner on the back of the shade that states "baby & child Restoration Hardware" and "Made in China."

ROMAN SHADES

Land of Nod is recalling Roman Shades "Weren't Built in a Day" sold by The Land of Nod stores in Illinois and Washington state from February 2007 to August 2009. Strangulation can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck.

This recall involves all Roman shades sold by The Land of Nod. A label sewn on the lower right back of the shade states "The Land of Nod" and "Made in China."

The Land of Nod will be sending free repair kits to all known consumers.

SHADES SOLD BY J.C. PENNEY

J.C. Penney Purchasing Corp. is recalling Roman Shades and Roll-Up Blinds sold by J.C. Penney nationwide. Strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the cord of the roman shades or becomes entangled on the loop of the roll-up blinds.

This recall involves all styles and sizes of Roman shades and roll-up blinds sold by JCPenney.

SHADES SOLD BY WALMART

Walmart Stores Inc. is recalling Roll-up Blinds and Roman Shades sold at Walmart stores nationwide from January 1999 to September 2009. Strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the cord of the roman shades or becomes entangled on the loop of the roll-up blinds.

This recall involves all styles and sizes of fabric, bamboo and jute roll-up blinds and Roman shades.

SHADES BY ALL STRONG INDUSTRY

All Strong Industry (USA) Inc. is recalling Roman Shades sold nationwide from January 2003 to May 2005. Strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck.

This recall involves Roman shades distributed by All Strong Industry that are made of a white-on-white striped fabric and measure about 64 inches long and the width ranges between 23 and 39 inches. "RN 103984" is printed on another sewn-in tag near the bottom back side of the fabric.

ROLL-UP BLINDS

Lotus & Windoware Inc. are recalling ¼" Oval Roll-up Blinds sold at Ace Hardware and Big Lots stores nationwide from January 1999 to April 2009. Strangulations can occur if the lifting loop slides off the side of the blind and a child's neck becomes entangled on the free-standing loop or if a child places his/her neck between the lifting loop and the roll-up blind material.

This recall involves all roll-up blinds without release clips. The roll-up blinds have plastic, ¼" oval-shaped slats, and measure either 48" or 72" long. The blinds were sold with two warning hang tags indicating ways to avoid strangulation.

SHADES SOLD AT BIG LOT 

International Merchandise is recalling  Deluxe Matchstick Roll-up Shades sold nationwide at Big Lot stores from January 2009 to June 2009.  Strangulations can occur if the lifting loops slide off the side of the blind and a child's neck becomes entangled on the free-standing loop or if a child places his/her neck between the lifting loop and the roll-up blind material. Also, children can become entangled in the looped pull cord.

This recall involves Deluxe Matchstick Roll-Up Shades with widths of 24", 36", 48" and 72" by 72" long in a "natural" color that are suspended by two cord loops called lifting loops or inner cords. Both the head rail and bottom rail are made of bamboo and there is a warning label near the bottom that advises: "Young children can become entangled and strangle in cord or bead loops."

SHADES SOLD AT POTTERY BARN

Pottery Barn is recalling Roman Shades and Paxton Roller Shades sold at Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids and PBteen nationwide from January 1998 to October 2009. Strangulation can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck.

This recall involves all sizes and colors of Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, and PBteen Roman shades with and without fabric backing and the Paxton roller shades.

West Elm is recalling Jute/Poly Roman Shades sold exclusively by West Elm nationwide from January 2005 to August 2009. Strangulation can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the shade or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck.

This recall involves all sizes and colors of West Elm Jute/Poly Roman shades.

SHADES BY DRAPER

Draper Inc. is recalling Roman Shades sold nationwide from March 2000 to September 2009. Strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the shade or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck.

This recall involves two models of Roman FlexShades – Roman-CL (clutch/manually operated by a bead-chain) and Roman-MO (motorized).

Strangulation can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck.

This recall includes all sizes and colors of Newport Energy Solution Roman Shades sold by Ross Stores with exposed inner cords on the back.

CHILDREN'S BOOTS 

The Timberland Company is recalling Classic Scuffproof Boots sold nationwide from June 2009 to October 2009. The logo stamped onto the children's boot's insoles contains excessive levels of lead. 

This recall involves children's Timberland 6" Classic Scuffproof boots. The boots are wheat-colored leather and were sold in toddler size 4 through junior size 7. CHRISTMAS TREE TOPPERS 

Precious Moments Inc. is recalling Precious Moments Angel Tree Toppers sold nationwide from August 2009 to December 2009. Undersized wiring can cause the tree topper's switch assembly to overheat and melt posing a fire hazard. 

The recalled tree toppers are 10 inch tall vinyl angels with LED lighted wings. The angels are white, gold and yellow and they are holding either a star or a set of bells. 

Consumers should return the tree toppers to the place of purchase for a full refund.

TOY DART GUN SETS 

OKK Trading Inc. is recalling "Action Team" Toy Dart Gun Set sold nationwide from December 2006 to March 2008. If a child places the soft, pliable plastic dart in his/her mouth, he/she is likely to choke/aspirate the dart into her/her throat impairing the child's ability to breathe. 

The "ACTION TEAM" play set has a toy gun with three soft rubber darts, a S.W.A.T. watch, a baton, walkie-talkie, a whistle, and a badge with a clip and an identification card. The toy gun is black with an orange nose and trigger and red spring release mechanism. "Made in China" is printed on one side of the barrel.

CHILDREN'S SWEATSHIRTS 

Jason Evans Associates, LLC is recalling Boys Fleece & Flannel Zip Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstrings sold at Burlington Coat Factory stores from September 2006 to October 2009. The hooded zip sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood which can pose a strangulation hazard. 

The recall includes boys fleece, printed fleece and flannel zip hooded sweatshirts with labels in the neck seam with the brand name Bay Trading and RN# 30842, in sizes 4 -- 18. 

Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard or return the garment to the place of purchase.

BICYCLE TIRE INFLATORS 

Todson Inc. is recalling CO2 bicycle tire inflators sold exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide from August 2009 to November 2009. The pressurized cartridge containing carbon dioxide (CO2) can forcefully separate from the pump head, posing a risk of injury. 

This recall involves Zefal CO2 bicycle tire inflators with a small pressurized carbon dioxide cartridge. The recalled inflators have "Zefal EZ+ CO2 inflator" printed on the front of the package. Model number 5602 and UPC number 798661556020 is printed on the back. 

Consumers should return the inflators to Walmart for a full refund.

DEHUMIDIFIERS 

Home Depot is recalling Hampton Bay Dehumidifiers sold at Home Depot stores nationwide from November 2000 to May 2007. An internal component can fail causing the dehumidifier to overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. 

The dehumidifiers are beige, have four wheels, and measure 21 inches high, 13 ½ inches wide and 17 ½ inches long. "Hampton Bay" is printed on the front panel. Model HB-50 is being recalled. The model number is printed on the back interior panel.

CAR SEATS 

Dorel Juvenile Group Inc. is recalling Dorel Infant Car Seat/Carriers sold from January 2008 to December 2009. When used as an infant carrier, the child restraint handle to the seat can loosen and come off, posing a fall hazard.
