The first service is providing tax filing services for the elderly.
Dominic Dalpoas, who has received training and performed this
service for several years in Logan County, will be available the
fourth Tuesday of February and March to assist local seniors in
submitting their tax information. Dalpoas cautions that he can give
no tax advice, and farmers and other more complicated situations
should be handled by a professional. However, for many seniors the
service is very beneficial. New this year is the opportunity to meet
in Mount Pulaski. Dalpoas has made arrangements with Vonderlieth
Living Center, 1120 N. Topper Drive on Route 121 north of town, to
make use of a room there. Contact The Oasis at 217-732-6132 to
schedule an appointment with Dalpoas. Appointment times will range
from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and will be made on a first-come,
first-served basis. In addition to tax filing, The Oasis will also
provide volunteers to assist elderly residents of the Mount Pulaski
area in applying for Illinois Cares Rx, a program for lower income
levels. Other relevant programs available to those involved will be
discussed and assistance provided in taking advantage of them. A
volunteer will be available at Vonderlieth Living Center the fourth
Thursday of every month, beginning in February. Call The Oasis,
732-6132, to arrange a scheduled time.
