LCHS speech team comes in 3rd at regional

[February 09, 2009]  The Lincoln Community High School speech team delivered a strong third-place finish at the regional tournament Saturday at Charleston High School.

"I couldn't be happier for the team! They've done a terrific job this year!" said head coach Katie Hartweg.

They advanced 12 of the 13 events as well as their performance-in-the-round piece, entitled "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band -- A Love Story," created and directed by assistant coaches Betsy Buttell and Zach Williams.

The following is a breakdown of the results:

  • Dramatic duet acting: Kaylyn Engelhardt and Cody Follis, second place

  • Dramatic interpretation: Cody Follis, third place

  • Extemporaneous speaking: William Grover, fourth place

  • Humorous duet acting: Kaylyn Engelhardt and Todd Schumacher, first place

  • Humorous interpretation: Hailey Cooper, fourth place

  • Oratorical declamation: Caiti Wunderlin, third place

  • Original comedy: Hailey Cooper, third place

  • Original oratory: Heather Meisenbach, first place

  • Poetry reading (verse reading): Jessica Sutton, first place

  • Prose reading: Lorenda Kirby, second place

  • Radio speaking: Heather Meisenbach, third place

  • Special occasion speaking: Todd Schumacher, first place

Performance in the round: Katy Langdon, Sara Buchanan, Elizabeth Jaegle, Tara Shane, Lauren Stanfield, Jarrod Grover and Matt Mason, second place
