[February 11, 2009]  (AP)  Violent storms that produced deadly tornadoes over Oklahoma and Texas were to intensify and move northeast early Wednesday, while a rain was brewing over California.

A risk of severe thunderstorms was expected across a broad area east of the Mississippi Valley into the Appalachians. A fast moving band of severe thunderstorms was possible to race across Ohio and Tennessee Valleys to the central and southern Appalachians, producing damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

The central and eastern Gulf Coast can expect severe storms as well, mainly damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

By Wednesday night, this system will move into the Great Lakes, dumping more rain and snow across much of the upper Midwest, Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Out West, a storm system off the Pacific Northwest coast will slowly drop southeast across California and Great Basin. Rain was expected over the coast and snow will fall across the coastal ranges, Cascades and Sierra. Rain and snow showers will spread into portions of the Rockies late Wednesday through Thursday morning.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 18 degrees at Presque Isle, Maine, to a high of 91 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
