[February 13, 2009]  WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican Sen. Judd Gregg says he pulled out for the job of commerce secretary because he felt uncomfortable being unable to support President Barack Obama 100 percent of the time.

Gregg says, "I'm just going to be a little too conservative" on fiscal spending issues.

The day after saying he'd made a mistake in agreeing to join the Obama administration, the New Hampshire senator said that if you're going to be on a football team, you've got to pull out and block on every play.

Gregg says that he agrees with the president's approach on many issues, including stabilizing Obama's approach to fixing the financial system.

Gregg spoke Friday morning on CNBC.
