Heartland offers computer training at Lincoln campus

[February 16, 2009]  The Community Education Department at Heartland Community College will offer classes in computer skills training on Thursday nights at the college's Lincoln campus, 620 Broadway St.  These hands-on classes are appropriate for those with no knowledge of computers as well as for experienced users who would like to increase their computer proficiency. Students signing up for two or more classes will receive a 10 percent discount on standard course fees.

Introduction to Personal Computers runs 6-9 p.m. beginning Feb. 26 for three consecutive weeks and includes an overview of various computer functions -- including word processing, Windows, spreadsheets, databases, slide show presentations and searching the Internet. Fee for the course is $99.

Image Fundamentals with Adobe Photoshop runs 6-9 p.m. beginning March 19 for three consecutive weeks and will explore creative ways to manipulate digital photos. Basic skills such as resizing, cropping and removing "red eye" will be covered, as well as more advanced photo editing techniques like adjusting the contrast; balancing, blurring or recoloring photos; and correcting common digital defects. Fee for the course is $120.

Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007 runs 6-9:20 p.m. beginning April 9 for three consecutive weeks and will teach students how to use Word 2007 to create and edit text documents. Students also will learn additional text editing skills such as setting tab stops, creating tables and using mail merge to create personalized form letters and mailings. Fee for the course is $125.
