[January 07, 2009]  (AP)  Wet weather was predicted along the East Coast on Wednesday, with a wintry mix forecast for the Northeast and showers and thunderstorms expected in the Southeast. Another storm was targeting the Northwest.

InsuranceThe storms in the Southeast could turn severe. Flood warnings were issued for parts of Florida and Georgia, where 2 to 4 inches of rain were forecast. One to 2 inches were expected to fall in the Mid-Atlantic.

The Northeast and New England were likely to see mixed precipitation, including 2 to 4 inches of snow and sleet and up to an inch of ice accumulating on roads. Dangerous road conditions were projected from New England to the Ohio River Valley.

Extremely cold weather was forecast for the upper Midwest, which was likely to see widespread snow showers but no significant accumulation. The Plains were expected to see a break in wet weather.

Two to 4 inches of rain were forecast for much of the Pacific Northwest, with snow expected at higher elevations. Four to 8 inches were likely in the northern Rockies. Strong winds gusting up to 60 mph were anticipated across the Northwest, while California was expected to see warmer, dryer conditions.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 23 degrees at Ely, Minn., to a high of 105 degrees at High Island, La.
