The Papers of Abraham Lincoln has published online a free second
edition of its award-winning publication "The Law Practice of
Abraham Lincoln." Encompassing all of the documents and information
from "The Law Practice of Abraham Lincoln: Complete Documentary
Edition," published in 2000 on three DVD-ROMs by the University of
Illinois Press, this new publication includes additional information
based on the research conducted for the project's four-volume print
edition published in 2008. "‘The Law Practice of Abraham Lincoln,
Second Edition' demonstrates the great potential that electronic
publications have to broaden and to revolutionize the study of
Lincoln," said Daniel W. Stowell, project director. "Now, scholars,
students, genealogists and the general public worldwide have access
to the record of Abraham Lincoln's legal career, with all of the
issues and people involved in that important part of his life."
"The Law Practice of Abraham Lincoln, Second Edition," available
at
www.lawpracticeofabrahamlincoln.org, features the same
user-friendly features of the original DVD-ROM and adds new
documents and cases discovered since the original publication in
2000. Included in the second edition are 45 new cases from Lincoln's
law practice, 12 new activities that did not result in litigation
and nearly 1,300 new documents. In addition, the editors have
replaced more than 1,500 black-and-white images of documents with
more legible color images based on the continuing work of the Papers
of Abraham Lincoln.

Although the original publication was widely available in law
libraries, colleges and universities across the nation, the second
edition is freely available to users worldwide through the Internet.
Together with "The Papers of Abraham Lincoln: Legal Documents and
Cases," published in 2008 by the University of Virginia Press, "The
Law Practice of Abraham Lincoln, Second Edition" completes Series I
of the Papers of Abraham Lincoln. Researchers and editors are
currently at work on Series II: Illinois Papers and Series III:
Presidential Papers.
The Papers of
Abraham Lincoln is a project of the Illinois Historic
Preservation Agency and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and
Museum. The Center for State Policy and Leadership at the University
of Illinois at Springfield and the Abraham Lincoln Association serve
as the project's co-sponsors.
