The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Extension unit to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games at the senior center on Thursday, beginning at 1 p.m.

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the senior center's library. No reservations are necessary. The group provides support and information for caregivers and extended family and is facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Memories class

The Memories class will begin at 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the senior center's library. Participants are asked to bring their own pen and paper to learn skills needed to preserve memories for families and friends.

Oasis annual board meeting

The annual board meeting of The Oasis is open to the public and will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday. The meeting of the corporation is in conjunction with the regular meeting. The purpose of the report is to inform the members and public on the accomplishments of 2008 and the goals for 2009. A nominating committee will submit names of candidates to serve terms available on the board of directors. The evening will begin with a business meeting, followed by entertainment and a light meal.

Oasis closed

The Oasis will be closed Friday to observe Martin Luther King Day and will resume daily activities on Monday.

Nursing Homes

January birthdays

Birthday time! January birthdays will be celebrated at the senior center on Monday, beginning at 1:30 p.m., at the senior center. Come join us for ice cream and cake.

Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Jan. 20 will feature tuna casserole, garlic bread and dessert for $3.75; or, if you stay to play cards, the cost is $3.25. The reservation deadline is noon Monday.

SHARE

The Self Help and Resource Exchange program distribution time will be Jan. 23, between 4 and 5:30 p.m., at the senior center. The program is an outreach sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Peoria. For more details, you may contact the senior center at 732-6132.

Card winners

Joyce Voyles won weekly pinochle. Weekend winners were Ruth Ackerman and Eileen Kohl. Betty Burger won five-in-one. Congratulations.
