[January 15, 2009]  Local students preparing for a challenging career in health care can now apply for scholarships offered by the Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation.

DonutsScholarship guidelines and application forms are available for download from www.almh.org. Completed applications are due April 3.

Scholarship winners are entitled to use the funds in the 2009-2010 school year to help pay for any level of their postsecondary education.

Applicants must be permanent residents of either Logan County or eastern Mason County. Graduating high school seniors, as well as students further along in their health care curriculum, are eligible to apply. Future nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, primary care providers and those entering other professional health care shortage areas are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants are evaluated on their academic achievement in high school or college course work, financial need, personal character, career preparation activities, soundness of educational plan, and the establishment of clear and realistic career goals.

Community members wishing to financially support local students pursuing careers in health care may send contributions to the Healthcare Careers Scholarship fund at the Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation, 315 Eighth St. in Lincoln.  Memorial and honor gifts are accepted.

For more information about the ALHF Healthcare Careers Scholarship program, contact April Jensen, Development Coordinator, at 732-5068, or visit www.almh.org.
