The Woods Foundation
granted funding to the agency to purchase a hybrid sedan. The Woods
Foundation was created through the generosity of Robert J. Woods and
Joan Jarrett Woods.
Just weeks ago, Community Action was operating with
two
sedans that each had over 150,000 miles and were reaching the end of
their useful life. The new 2009 Chevy Malibu Hybrid purchased with a
$22,500 grant from the Woods Foundation helps the agency go green
with a reliable and fuel-efficient vehicle.
The new hybrid is
expected to have long-lasting cost savings on fuel and maintenance
bills that were burdening the program. In addition, seniors will be
less inconvenienced when a vehicle is off the road for maintenance or
repair.
“We are ecstatic to
have a hybrid vehicle in our fleet and so thankful to the Woods
Foundation for their support. To have an opportunity to save long-term on fuel costs and reduce our carbon footprint is terrific. Most
importantly, the seniors we serve are being transported in a
reliable and safe vehicle," said Angela Stoltzenburg, executive
director of
Community Action. "We couldn't be more grateful to the Woods
Foundation for making that happen.”
Partial funding for
the Senior Transportation program is provided by Area Agency on
Aging for Lincolnland, United Way and the Logan County senior tax.
Community Action provides rides to seniors aged 60 or better for a
suggested donation of $2 per ride. Out-of-town rides are also
available for a suggested donation.
Senior meals are also delivered
and provided at congregate sites for a $3 suggested donation. No
senior is turned away for inability to pay.
Seniors in need of
transportation or meals can contact Community Action by calling
217-732-2159, ext. 240 or 242.
Community Action is a
private, nonprofit organization serving six central Illinois counties.
