[January 26, 2009]  QUINCY -- On Saturday, the Lincoln College men's basketball team defeated John Wood Community College 87-61. In a prepared statement, Lynx coach Kirk Whiteman assessed the game:

"We played a great second half. We were leading 33-30 at halftime. Our bigs did a great job on their post players. We held Reo Quarles to nine points and five rebounds, and he averages 13 points and 11 rebounds. Our coaching staff really challenged our kids on the defensive end tonight and they stepped up.

"John Wood is very well- coached, with great post players and a couple great shooters. We scored 56 points in the paint and got 26 points in transition. Cortez Augusta had six steals, eight assists and did a wonderful job of pushing the ball in the second half to create easy layups.

"Bryce Davis battled, leading all scorers with 25 points and rebounders with 11."

Lincoln will play Lewis and Clark on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Lincoln.
