[January 26, 2009]  Cloudy and cold conditions will prevail today, with temperatures ranging from 15 degrees in central Illinois to the lower 20s in southeast Illinois. Snow will move into the region this evening, resulting in hazardous travel conditions in the southern half of Illinois.

Snow, mixed at times with sleet, will become heavy along and south of Interstate 70 tonight into Tuesday. Total accumulations will range from 6 to 8 inches, with locally heavier amounts near 10 inches possible in some spots. Lesser amounts, ranging from 5 inches just north of I-70 to 2-3 inches along I-72, are likely.

People planning travel anywhere in the southern half of Illinois, Missouri, southern Indiana or Kentucky late tonight through Tuesday are advised to stay abreast of the latest weather conditions.
