[January 30, 2009]  The Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Task Force, supported through the Healthy Communities Partnership, will provide its Safe Ride program for Lincoln on Super Bowl Sunday. Given the nature of the event and number of private parties hosted in conjunction with the big game, the program is expanding its services.

"We are very aware of the new DUI laws in Illinois and support the efforts to deter drunk driving," states Michelle Bauer, ATOD co-chair. "It is important for us to keep our community and its members safe. We believe awareness and education aren’t enough. We have to be active in providing solutions as well."

All residents within the Lincoln city limits may use the local taxi service to catch a ride home from either a bar, tavern or residence on Super Bowl Sunday at no cost. The patron must be heading home or to another residence. The program will not cover bar-to-bar transfers.
