[June 30, 2009]  Lincoln Christian Church will present Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance" July 29–Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Christian Church Fellowship Center, 204 N. McLean St.

The cast includes Bob Kurka, Patrick Perry, Randy Storm, Jeremy Goeckner, Brian Welter, Kristee Smith, Beverly Kurka, Sheralyn Bolton, Annie Sheley, Gail King, Miriam Carter, Kate Harmon, Elizabeth Carter, Alexis Hill, Casey Kennett, Rebekah Crider, Shelby Voyles, Brian Bolton, Ethan Golden, Brandon Davis, Steven Schleich, Bud Estep, Ed Carter, Mike Koke, David Carter, Curtis Schleich, Ian Crider, Dan Bailey and Chris Hazel. Tim Searby is directing the production, with Jim Allison as assistant director, and Linda Storm serves as accompanist.

All tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the church office, 217-732-7618.

Seating is limited to 300 for each performance. All proceeds from the show will be divided between Harvest of Talents for World Hunger and Together for Lincoln.


To help ensure an adequate blood supply for local hospitals, a blood drive is being held at the Lincoln Masonic Center, 2022 N. Kickapoo St. in Lincoln, on Monday, July 6. The hours of the blood drive are noon-6 p.m. For your convenience, please call Jessica to sign up (toll-free) at 1-866-GIVE-BLD, ext. 6814, or schedule an appointment online at www.cicbc.org. Walk-ins are also welcome and truly appreciated.


Lincoln Lions Club will sponsor a FREE hearing screening at the Logan County Department of Public Health on Wednesday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to noon. The mobile hearing screening unit will screen anyone 18 years of age and older. Children aged 10-17 accompanied by an adult can also have their hearing checked.

Enjoy the Fourth of July activities at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1409 Pulaski St.

Patriotic flag display, close parking, great lawn, clean bathrooms, free popcorn, bake sale, ice cream and drinks available.

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and take advantage of the activities:

5 p.m. -- Outdoor praise service in the shelter

6 p.m. -- Bake sale begins. Some items are packaged to be enjoyed on the grounds.

6:15 p.m. -- Community potluck and fellowship. Bring a dish to share.

7:30 p.m. -- Audra's Dance Studio presents The Cloggers.

8:15 p.m. -- Lesleigh Bennett shares her talent of singing with the community.

9 p.m. -- Enjoy the fireworks.

Come and enjoy the freedom we share and show appreciation for our troops.
