[July 03, 2009]  Our recipe section, Grab Your Fork, now has an exciting new addition. Every month we will draw the name of someone who has submitted a recipe, and that winner can choose from a whole list of great prizes. If you haven't been to Grab Your Fork in a while, you need to check out the 200 recipes we already have archived. Every week this month we will add more prizes to the prize pool, so stop by often and see what you could win just by joining in the fun. (Click here.)

Congratulations to the Zonta Club of Lincoln. The group won our June Close Up grab bag drawing, and a check for $25 will be going out to this club just for sending us their good news. Don't miss out on the opportunity to let the community know about your great club or organization's news. And you could win some cash as well.

Summer is flying by but Lincoln Park District still has plenty of fun programs to participate in. Monday through Friday, July 6-10, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., is the time for Crime Scene Investigators. Mrs. Kitty's cat has been stolen, and as a forensic scientist you hold the key to discovering the culprit. The class will get you into the hands-on world of forensics and crime solving as you build your own CSI Crime Kit. You will evaluate fingerprints and collect evidence at the scene of the crime. Your well-trained eye will determine who committed this awful crime. Lead investigator and crime scene expert is Deputy Richard Montcalm. Rich has been in law enforcement for 19 years and has also been the chief of police for the city of Lincoln. Rich has an extensive background in teaching at the college level as well. Preregistration is recommended and there is a maximum of 15 detectives.

On Sunday, July 5, Logan Lanes will have an all-night lock-in for kids age 7-17. There will be pizza, soda, juice and doughnuts. Besides the bowling -- both regular and cosmic -- we will have an air hockey tourney and a pool tourney. There will be contests like limbo, hula hoops and more. The lock-in starts Sunday night at 11 p.m. and ends Monday morning at 7 a.m. on July 6. Cost is $20 if signed up before July 3 ($25 after that).

The Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Task Force of the Healthy Communities Partnership is sponsoring a free cab ride home in their "Don't Drink & Drive, Get a Safe Ride" campaign for July 3, within the Lincoln city limits. Ask your bartender how to get a free ride. If you don't, you may get a free ride to the Logan County Jail!

Got a good piece of news, information or something that we can all brag about? If you do, e-mail Mike and let us tell everyone about it. Plus you can win cash. Every submission, whether we use it or not, will get your name in the "Close Up" grab bag. At the end of the month we will draw a name and someone will get $25 just for dropping us an e-mail. If you wish, we will be happy to donate your winnings to the organization of your choice.
