HardwareShowers and thunderstorms were also forecast for the upper Midwest and Ohio Valley. A few severe storms were likely, capable of producing hail and damaging winds.

In the West, light to moderate rain was to fall across western Washington state. Farther inland, a system in the Rockies was to trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northern Intermountain West and northern high Plains early in the day.

The system was expected to move into the northern Plains during the day, with heavier precipitation. Some severe storms were likely, producing large hail and isolated tornadoes especially over southwestern North Dakota as well as central and western South Dakota and central Iowa.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Truckee-Tahoe, Calif., to a high of 111 degrees at Laughlin, Nev.
