They could override Gov. Pat Quinn's veto of an out-of-balance
budget that legislators approved last month. Or they could consider
the governor's new idea of passing a budget and then figuring out in
November whether to cut spending or raise taxes. But many people
and groups will be hoping for a quick decision when lawmakers meet
Tuesday.
Paychecks can't go out to state employees without a new budget in
place, and groups that provide local services on behalf of
government don't know whether they'll be paid.
