[July 17, 2009]  On Thursday, Michael McIntosh, Logan County state's attorney, charged two individuals with residential burglary and aggravated possession of stolen firearms.

DonutsDetectives from the Logan County sheriff's office did some excellent work in cracking this case, even putting themselves in harm's way to recover some of the stolen weapons, McIntosh said. Unfortunately, deputies were unable to recover all the guns that are the subject of these charges.

Michael E. Brosmore, 18, and Gaymon D. Nicholson, 20, were both charged with residential burglary and with aggravated possession of a stolen firearm.

Residential burglary is a Class 1 felony, which carries a possible sentence from probation to prison time. Aggravated possession of a stolen firearm is a Class X felony, which carries a minimum sentence of six years in prison to a maximum of 40 years in prison.

"I intend to send a message that gun crimes of this nature will not be tolerated in Logan County," the state's attorney said. "Offenses like this are insidious, in that once illicit guns are on the street, there is no way of knowing what type of crimes they may be used to commit. This type of threat to the public safety will simply not be tolerated."

The public is reminded that the individuals charged are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
