[July 18, 2009]  Fifth Street Road, also named 1550th Street, will be closed to replace several box culverts located five to eight miles west of Lincoln. Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday and is expected to be completed by the end of August. During this time, the roadway will be closed to through traffic. Local residents will still have access to their homes.

In all, seven box culverts with protruding concrete headwalls will be replaced. These headwalls have been associated with several accidents in previous years.

Logan County was awarded funds through the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program to complete this construction.

The project was awarded to Illinois Civil Contractors, East Peoria, at a cost of $271,566.

Cooperation and patience are always appreciated during the construction season as the highway department continues to improve the safety of our roads and bridges.
