Illinois Department of
Public Health Director Damon Arnold says officials
are working on a plan to deal with a "severe" swine
flu outbreak this fall. He says experts and
emergency officials met to discuss preparations this
week at the 2009 Illinois Public Health Emergency
Preparedness Summit in suburban Chicago. Officials advise people
to take precautions against the flu by washing their
hands frequently, covering their mouth while they
sneeze or cough, and staying home if they're sick.
Authorities say the
number of swine flu cases in Illinois has increased
to more than 3,300. There have been 15 deaths in the
state from the virus.
