The Oasis site for the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs is temporarily closed, pending resolution of the state budget. For information on veterans' benefits, please contact Richard Bailey, service officer, at 217-875-8680.

The Oasis Belles

The Oasis Red Hat group, Oasis Belles, will meet Tuesday, Aug. 4, beginning at 11 a.m. After the meeting, lunch will be available for purchase. Please call 732-6132 for lunch reservations.

The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director.

Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Hearing screening

FREE hearing tests will be available Wednesday, Aug. 5. Appointments begin at 10 a.m. Joyce Dearth, B.C.H.I.S., from the Hearing Aid Center provides the service, which is by appointment only. Call The Oasis at 732-6132.

Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Aug. 4 features sloppy joes, fries, cucumber salad and dessert. The suggested donation is of $3.75, or if you stay to play cards, the cost is $3.25. The deadline is noon Aug. 3.

Card winners

The card winners for weekday pinochle were Jean Cypher and Pat Sebastian. The weekend pinochle winners were Don Harmon and Esther Will. The winner for five-in-one was Betty Burger.
