[July 29, 2009]  On Thursday, Lincoln and Logan County will welcome home several local soldiers who have spent the past 11 months in Afghanistan. The soldiers should arrive back in Lincoln at approximately 3 p.m. Returning soldiers are Sgt. Jeremy Duffer, Staff Sgt. Jim Rehmann (Lincoln City Police), Sgt. Robert Jackson, Specialist Josh Jackson, Specialist Brandon Jackson, Specialist Matthew Langley, Specialist Lucas Wampler and Chaplain Jeremy Todd.

The returning troops will be escorted by the Lincoln Fire Department and Lincoln police from Steak n Shake on Woodlawn Road up to Old Route 66, as they make their way to the Veterans of Foreign Wars building at 915 Fifth St. There they will enjoy a "welcome home" party thrown by the Lincoln Military Support Group and the city of Lincoln. The celebration will include cake, soda and a brief ceremony by the mayor pro tem.

The community is encouraged to come and line the escort route around 2:45 p.m. and welcome our soldiers home, as well as join in the celebration at the VFW.
