Ag futures leap; beef prices up, pork drops

[July 31, 2009]    CHICAGO (AP) -- Agriculture futures leapt Thursday on the Chicago Board of Trade.

DonutsWheat for September delivery added 4.75 cents to $5.1625 a bushel, and September corn jumped 11.5 cents to $3.3225 a bushel. December oats gained 4 cents to $2.08, and soybeans for November delivery soared 55 cents to $9.71 a bushel.

Meanwhile, beef futures rose as pork futures retreated on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

October live cattle climbed 0.60 cent to 89.85 cents a pound, while August feeder cattle inched up 0.10 cent to $1.0212 a pound. October lean hogs shed 0.50 cent to 52.60 cents a pound, and August pork bellies dropped 0.55 cent to 61 cents a pound.
