[June 03, 2009]  Area responders attended to two separate incidents last evening where women were left lying on the ground with injuries. One was a hit-and-run, the other a domestic abuse incident.

In the city of Lincoln a woman was struck by a vehicle around Pulaski and LaDue streets at approximately 8 p.m. She was hospitalized in a Springfield hospital, with her condition unstated.

Lincoln Police Chief Stuart Erlenbush said that the incident is under investigation but that there could be a release later today.

The other incident took place earlier on Interstate 55 near Elkhart. A 911 call came just before 7 p.m. from a young child in a car, saying that mom was attacking grandma and there was blood. The vehicle was between I-55 mile markers 116 and 117. When rescuers arrived, they found a woman lying on the side of the highway. There was no car in sight. The Illinois State Police are investigating the incident.

Local and state law enforcement, fire and rescue departments, and paramedics were called to each of these incidents.

Details of these events are pending investigation and have not been released yet.
