Scattered showers and thunderstorms were to stretch from Pennsylvania through the Mid-Atlantic and Gulf States, and into Texas.

There was a greater chance for severe weather in the Gulf States, with strong winds, heavy downpours and frequent lightning. Flooding was to be a threat in the Lower Mississippi Valley.

In the West, scattered showers were expected along the coast, then triggering scattered showers and thunderstorms over Idaho and Wyoming.

Warm and dry weather was expected over the Plains before a cold front moving south from Canada was to kick up light and scattered rain showers along the border.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Cook, Minn., to a high of 105 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
